Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.” (Helen H. Lemmel, taken from cyberhymnal.org)
While I am not familiar with the song’s author, there is so much richness in the chorus of this church song. So often our focus is on our health or our finances or so many other temporal things. We allow ourselves to worry about so many things that just don’t matter in view of eternity. As a person who struggles with anxiety, I can be guilty of this often. However, we need to keep our focus on God – on what He has done through His Son and who we are in Him. We need to feast on His Word and seek Him in prayer. I think if we allow ourselves to stay fixed on God rather than our circumstances, as the song says, “the things of earth will grow strangely dim”. They won’t consume our thoughts with worry. Why should we worry when we serve a God who spoke the world into existence, who holds all of life in the palm of His hands, is in control? Our lives come and go so quickly. Let’s “set our minds on things above” as Scripture says and start focusing on things with eternal value. Let’s seek to know God better, serve Him more, and love Him greater than we ever have. This we will never regret.
