While waiting for students to arrive for the Campus Bible Study last Monday, I was able to talk with two guys from the group "Disciples on Campus" (International Church of Christ). They were on their way to a meeting but had some time to kill so they sat down for a chat.
I've already had a few run-ins with different members of this group, so I was definitely cautious when they sat down. The "International Church of Christ" teaches that you must be water baptized (among other things) in order to be saved and the "Disciples on Campus" (DOC) shares this heretical teaching at colleges across the nation!
As the students began to talk with me, they started asking some questions regarding various doctrines and wanted answers regarding different portions of Scripture. I gave them answers and also encouraged them to read the Bible for themselves, instead of relying upon studies from the DOC, like "First Principles" by Kip McKean.
Before they left, I asked if I could pray for them and they agreed. I reiterated my admonition to test all things and study the Bible, encouraging them to be like Bereans. We parted on good terms (as far as I know) and I look forward to reaching out to the misguided students of this group in the future.
